The Kingfisher Preschool program, licensed by the Vancouver Island Health Authority, serves children ages 3-5. Morning and afternoon classes are offered in groups of 16 children who attend for two or three days a week. Our facility is wheelchair accessible and we have children who need extra support integrated into the program. The licensed Kingfisher Preschool program has been operating in Sooke since 1987.
If you would like to visit Kingfisher, please call the Sooke Family Resource Society reception desk for an appointment. We will be happy to give you a tour, answer your questions, and welcome your preschooler to our program.
Kingfisher Preschool Program Philosophy and Goals
At Kingfisher, we believe that children learn best in a safe, secure environment, with age appropriate challenges to their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development.
Our aim is to nurture your child’s natural creativity and curiosity through play. We encourage the development of a positive self-image and high self-esteem through open ended activities where exploration, discovery, and repetition can happen at the child’s own pace.
We work with the children to encourage:
A love of learning
Flexibility and resiliency
Complete a Provider Interview
The ability to make good choices and decisions
The ability to solve problems alone and with others
A willingness to take risks
The children are free to choose activities and be creative in how they use the materials and equipment, but we ask children to:
